There are three charging levels to choose from but Level 2 chargers are ideal for charging at home. Level 1 chargers use standard 120 volt wall outlets and charge a 250 mile range battery 55+ hours. Level 2 chargers require a 240 volt power source but offer significantly faster charging speeds, charging a 250 mile range battery from empty to full overnight (8 hours). Level 3 chargers utilize direct current (DC) to charge EVs incredibly quickly but come with some drawbacks. The chargers themselves are prohibitively expensive, difficult to install, and daily use of Level 3 chargers can damage EV batteries. For these reasons they are generally used only for highway side charging stations.
JuiceBox 40 provides the right mix of power and value for many EV drivers. At 40 amps, it can charge up to 7x faster than Level 1 charging (charging times can vary based on the acceptance rate of the vehicle). To install a 40-amp charger, our electrician will will need to install a 50-amp circuit. Electrical standards require that circuits provide at least 125% of the total draw of devices on the circuit.
The output of the JuiceBox 40 may be greater than the acceptance rate of your car. That is okay! It will only charge at the speed your car can accept, but will be ready for any future vehicles you may purchase with a higher acceptance rate.
No, but you will need a WiFi connection to use JuiceBox’s smart charging features, such as power monitoring, scheduling, and reminders. In the absence of WiFi, your JuiceBox will act as a standard charging unit, and any schedules or limits you set when connected to WiFi will remain, even if the JuiceBox is no longer connected to WiFi. We highly recommend connecting your JuiceBox to WiFi, but your car will charge even if you cannot connect.
